Degrees & Certificates

The AS degree in Electronics can serve as a basis for further study in electronics at the bachelor’s degree level. Various California State Colleges and Universities offer four-year degrees in fields such as applied technology and engineering technology. However, since BS electrical engineering (EE) degrees require electronics courses to be calculus based, and electronics courses at LAVC are not calculus based, students intending to transfer in Electrical Engineering majors might consider the Engineering degree.
The biomedical programs prepare students to repair and maintain a wide variety of electronic apparatus used in the medical field, working as technicians in hospitals and for equipment manufacturers. Some of these positions are: Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET); Field Service Engineer; Medical Equipment Sales Engineer; Clinical Laboratory Technician; and R & D Technician. The program prepares students to take the nationally offered Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) examination. The certificate can be the basis for continued study and attainment of the associate degree
The Electronics Technician certificate leads to positions such as: Electronics Technician; Field Service Technician; Field Service Engineer; Test Technician; Flight-line Technician; Broadcast Technician; Quality Control Technician; and Electronics Manufacturers Technician. (Estimated time of completion: two years.)
The Electronics Technology Certificate can lead to positions such as: Entry-level Electronics Technician; Electronics Assembler Technician; Electronics Supply Salesperson; and Test Technician Trainee. This certificate is designed to prepare the student to enter the electronics technician field as quickly as possible, with an estimated time of completion of one year.
